SBI exposes police officer in fraud against soldier
In Kremenchuk, Poltava Region, employees of the State Bureau of Investigation exposed a police officer who, together with an accomplice, defrauded a military officer of over 600 thousand UAH.
According to investigators, the soldier, who had health problems, planned to undergo treatment and receive the status of limited fitness for service. The soldier was advised to contact a police officer who allegedly “has connections” among doctors. The law enforcement officer immediately stated that his service would cost 20 thousand dollars, 12 of which the soldier paid immediately. In addition, the policeman’s best friend joined the scheme, who also began to demand money from the soldier – 3 thousand dollars for organizing hospitalization and issuing medical certificates.
The Bureau's investigators established that the woman scheduled meetings near the hospital, but each time she postponed them, citing fabricated reasons. At the same time, she assured that "according to the documents" the soldier was already undergoing treatment. Later, she stopped contacting him, and the accomplice refused to return the money.
Investigators have charged the police officer and his accomplice with large-scale fraud (Part 4, Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and they face up to eight years in prison. It is noted that the law enforcement officer has already been dismissed from his position.
