The High Anti-Corruption Court has imposed a preventive measure on Lutsk City Council deputy Mykola Fedik in the form of a bail of UAH 5 million and wearing an electronic bracelet. The official is suspected of extorting a $30,000 bribe for resolving a land issue. His alleged accomplice, Volyn Regional Council deputy Anatoliy Vitiv, is also under investigation.

As it became known, on December 19, NABU came to search the Lutsk City Council and the Volyn Regional Council. Later, law enforcement officers reported that they had uncovered a corruption scheme involving deputies of both councils.

According to the investigation, Anatoliy Vitiv, the head of the Svoboda faction in the Volyn regional council, together with Mykola Fedik, the 38-year-old head of the same faction in the Lutsk city council, demanded a $30,000 bribe from a land user in Lutsk for granting permission to build a high-rise building. The suspects managed to get half of the amount - $15,000.

On December 24, the High Anti-Corruption Court imposed a preventive measure of UAH 10 million on Anatoliy Vitiv, and on January 5, 2026, a preventive measure of UAH 4,992,000 was also imposed on Mykola Fedik. The suspect was ordered to appear when summoned by law enforcement officers, report a change of residence, not leave the region without permission, not communicate with the defendants in the case, surrender his passport, and wear an electronic bracelet.

For accepting an offer, promise, or receiving an illegal benefit from an official (Part 4, Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), deputies face 8 to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

We also previously reported that an associate professor at a university is suspected of taking a bribe of more than 30,000 UAH for an exam.
