The mayor of Novomoskovsk will be tried for a bribe of 30,000 dollars
Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) have completed a pre-trial investigation into the chairman of the Novomoskovsk City Council, Serhiy Reznyk, and the council's secretary, Volodymyr Arutyunov. Officials are accused of demanding a bribe of 30,000 dollars from an entrepreneur who planned to build a dormitory for displaced persons in the city of Novomoskovsk, Dnipropetrovsk region. The indictment has already been submitted to the court.
The company planned to renovate an unfinished school with an area of 4.5 thousand square meters. m to provide housing for displaced persons, which was to be paid for by an international humanitarian organization. For this, the entrepreneur turned to the city council.
During the meetings, the officials offered two options for solving the issue: for 50 or 30 thousand dollars. In case of receiving 50,000 dollars, the officials promised to bring the issue to the vote of the session and to ensure the signing of the memorandum on the transfer of the building to a long-term lease without announcing a special tender. For $30,000, the entrepreneur would have to give kickbacks to those involved.
In April 2024, the businessman handed over $30,000 to the secretary of the council in his office, after which both officials were arrested at the scene of the crime.
According to the SBI, the officials are accused of extorting and receiving an unlawful benefit in a particularly large amount, which falls under Part 4 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. These actions are punishable by imprisonment for up to 12 years with confiscation of property.
