Doctor in Sumy to face trial for bribes from soldiers

The Sumy District Prosecutor's Office has approved and sent to court an indictment against a narcologist who also holds the position of chief physician of one of the medical institutions in Romenskyi district in Sumy region. The woman is accused of extorting bribes from military personnel for issuing medical examination reports establishing the absence of drug or alcohol use, which is required for admission to work.
According to the prosecutor's office, the accused demanded that the servicemen pay UAH 5,000 for issuing one medical examination report. The doctor ignored the procedure established by law - she did not conduct laboratory tests or take biological samples, and she drew up the reports fictitiously, certifying them with her signature and the institution's seal, the post reports.
In June 2025, after receiving UAH 15,000 from a serviceman for three protocols, the doctor was detained by law enforcement officers in a procedural manner. Currently, investigators have collected evidence and sent an indictment to the court. The doctor is charged with offenses under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - receiving an unlawful benefit by an official, combined with extortion; Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - official forgery. If the court finds her guilty, she faces imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years, with confiscation of property.
As the prosecutor's office clarified, after receiving suspicion in June 2025, the doctor resigned from her position as a narcologist. The court chose a preventive measure for her in the form of a personal bond.
