Activist in Vinnytsia region demanded bribe from soldier

In Vinnytsia region, police detained an anti-corruption activist from a public organization for extorting a bribe from a military officer.
This was reported by the National Police of Vinnytsia Region and the Prosecutor General's Office.
The detainee is an employee of the department of the committee for combating corruption and organized crime of the all-Ukrainian public organization.
According to investigators, he demanded $6,000 (over UAH 258,000) from the soldier. In exchange for the money, the anti-corruption activist promised the soldier to influence the leadership of the military unit so that he would be released from service.
The NGO representative received the entire amount of the bribe during a meeting with a soldier in a car, after which he was detained. The Prosecutor General's Office clarifies that the soldier acted under the control of law enforcement officers.
The detainee was charged with abuse of influence (Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The maximum penalty provided for by the article is imprisonment for a term of up to eight years with confiscation of property. The suspect is currently in custody.
