Oleg Kantor’s Suspension as Halych Mayor Extended
The Kalush City District Court extended the suspension of Oleg Kantor from the position of mayor of Halych until November 9, 2026. Until then, restrictions related to the preventive measure will apply. Kantor is accused of receiving illegal benefits and inciting an employee of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Military Administration to give a bribe. The court also set a date for considering Oleg Kantor's case on the merits.
At the meeting, Prosecutor Maryan Doskoch requested to extend the suspension of Oleh Kantor from his position and the term of the duties assigned to him in connection with the preventive measure until November 9, 2026.
The defendant's lawyer, Anna Kantor, asked to deny the motion. She said that Oleg Kantor, in the opinion of the defense, properly performed his procedural duties. The defense denied the prosecutor's arguments regarding Oleg Kantor's possible influence on witnesses, which were cited in the text of the motion.
The court granted the prosecutor's request and extended the suspension of Oleg Kantor from office for another 60 days - until November 9 inclusive. Until the same date, the term of the duties assigned to him as a preventive measure was extended. Oleg Kantor must appear in court upon first demand, not leave the Ivano-Frankivsk district without the permission of the prosecutor or the court, report any change of residence, and refrain from communicating with specific witnesses in the case.
A preparatory hearing was also held in the Kalusky City District Court in the case of Oleg Kantor. The lawyers requested that three witnesses be called for questioning. The court granted this request. In addition, Kantor's defense requested temporary access to materials from other court cases and documents for "a full and objective trial and establishment of all circumstances."
The court denied the defense temporary access to materials and documents. Judge Oleg Myhovych scheduled the case of Oleg Kantor for consideration on the merits on October 14, 2026 in the Kalusky City District Court.
