Water management official in Lviv region fined for bribery

The Zhydachiv District Court of Lviv Oblast sentenced Roman Maksymov, a native of Khodoriv, head of the Zhydachiv Operational Department of the Basin Management of Water Resources of the Western Bug and San Rivers, who transferred management equipment for use in exchange for bribes. He was fined 51,000 UAH and deprived of the right to hold administrative and economic positions.
As noted in the court verdict, in September 2021, Roman Maksymov, working as the head of the Zhydachiv operational department of the Basin Department of Water Resources of the Western Bug and Syan rivers, received a bribe of UAH 28,000 from a private individual for the provision of special equipment services for the construction of a reservoir on a land plot without concluding a corresponding agreement. This involved an additional period of use of special equipment beyond that stipulated in the previously concluded agreement. He was detained by law enforcement officers after receiving the money.
During the trial, the accused pleaded guilty and expressed remorse. When determining the sentence, the court took into account the positive characteristics of the accused, as well as the fact that he was a participant in hostilities.
Judge Roman Ravlinko found Roman Maksymov guilty of receiving unlawful benefit (Part 1 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced him to a fine of UAH 51,000 and deprived him of the right to hold administrative and economic positions for a period of two years. The verdict can still be appealed.
As a reminder, we previously reported that in Dnipro, an official of the "Probation Center" is suspected of taking a bribe of $21,000.
