Appeal court judge sentenced to 6.5 years for bribery

The HIghAnti-Corruption Court has announced a verdict against a former judge of the Kropyvnytskyi Court of Appeal, who demanded a $10,000 bribe from the perpetrator of a road accident. This was reported by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office. Law enforcement officers are not disclosing the name of the convicted person, but according to the "Sudovo-Yurydychna Gazeta", it is Volodymyr Honchar.
The HACC found Volodymyr Honchar guilty of extorting and receiving a bribe for the release of the perpetrator of a fatal road accident from a suspended sentence. According to the HACC decision, the ex-judges imposed a sentence of six years and six months in prison with confiscation of property. The convict was also deprived of the right to hold positions in the justice system.
It is noted that the verdict will enter into force in 30 days, and during this period it can be appealed to the court of appeal.
