HACC schedules trial in Smirnov case

The High Anti-Corruption Court has scheduled for consideration on the merits of criminal proceedings against former Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Smirnov for charges of illicit enrichment, obtaining unlawful benefits, and legalization of illegally acquired funds.
The press service of the HACC reports this, but does not indicate the name of the accused.
According to media reports, this concerns Smirnov and businessman Igor Chernyshev.
On April 15, the panel of judges of the HACC completed the preparatory court hearing in the case against the former deputy head of the Public Prosecutor's Office and another person. The case has been scheduled for trial, during the first session of which the SAPO prosecutor has already delivered an opening speech. The next court hearing is scheduled for May 12, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.

As a reminder, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office reported new suspicions against former Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Smirnov.
On May 22, 2024, the SAPO and NABU presented the first suspicion to the former Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Smirnov in illegal enrichment of 15.7 million hryvnias.
NABU detectives established that in the period from 2020 to 2022, the official purchased assets worth 17.1 million hryvnias, having savings and official income for this period in the amount of more than 1.3 million hryvnias. Thus, the difference between the value of the purchased property and the official's funds was 15.7 million hryvnias. These are 2 cars, namely Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen, Honda and BMW motorcycles, three parking spaces in Kyiv, an apartment in Lviv and a land plot in Transcarpathia.
