HACC changes preventive measure for MP Yurchenko
The High Anti-Corruption Court has changed the preventive measure for Oleksandr Yurchenko, a member of parliament from the Servant of the People party, who is suspected of receiving an illegal benefit and inciting to provide it.
As noted, the prosecutor in the case insisted on choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention for the parliamentarian, emphasizing that Yurchenko systematically failed to appear at court hearings.
At the same time, the prosecutor asked the court to collect from the state the bail in the amount of 3 million hryvnias, which Yurchenko paid in 2020.
It is reported that the HACC partially satisfied the prosecutor's request, ruling that the People's Deputy should not leave the Kyiv region until August 30, 2026, but the court rejected the request to collect 3 million hryvnias in bail in favor of the state.
At the same time, commenting on the decision of the HACC, Yurchenko stated that he had allegedly only missed court sessions a few times in five years and "each time he informed the court about it."
Why did the prosecution suddenly decide to file such a statement at all, I cannot give it a proper assessment. Because it is my example of how open I have been to the trial all this time and how I have been contributing to it as much as possible. As is known, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office recently filed a petition with the court to change the preventive measure for MP Yurchenko.
Recall that, according to the investigation, People's Deputy Oleksandr Yurchenko, in a veiled form, asked to provide him, through an intermediary - his assistant Ivan Fishchenko - with an illegal benefit in the amount of $13,000 for making proposals to the draft Law of Ukraine "On Waste Management" and subsequently $200,000 for bribing People's Deputy members of the relevant committee to vote for the proposals he presented.
In mid-August 2020, law enforcement officers recorded the fact of the transfer and receipt by the People's Deputy of the first part of the agreed funds through an intermediary. The transfer of the second part of the funds was planned for August 26-27, 2020. However, further implementation of the special task was stopped.
As is known, the HACC took Yurchenko into custody with the alternative of 3 million UAH bail. Later, money was paid for him and he was released from duty. And in February 2022, it was reported that after the return of his foreign passports, Oleksandr Yurchenko flew to the Dominican Republic on vacation.
