Supreme Court upholds verdict against ex-judge from Dnipro

The Supreme Court upheld the sentence of 2.5 years in prison for Vadym Galichy, a former judge of the Zhovtnevy District Court of Dnipro. He has already served his sentence, and the statute of limitations in the case has expired.
This decision was made by the Criminal Court of Cassation, the press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office reports.
As is known, Galich was found guilty of abuse of influence and sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison with a 3-year disqualification from holding positions in courts, law enforcement agencies, and the bar for 3 years. At the same time, the Appeals Chamber of the HACC reduced the sentence to 2.5 years in prison. The defense filed a cassation appeal against these decisions. The Supreme Court overturned the decision of the AC of the HACC and ordered a retrial of the appeal.
After the Appeals Chamber stopped the hearing of Galichy's case due to his mobilization to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Later, the court resumed the hearing of the case because the accused had resigned from the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Galichy's sentence was confirmed but the sentence was reduced. At the same time, he was released from serving his sentence because the statute of limitations had expired in the case and he himself had already served it.
On February 17, 2026, the Cassation Criminal Court of the Supreme Court ruled to leave unchanged the verdict of the Appeals Chamber of the HACC dated February 14, 2025 against the former judge of the Zhovtnevy District Court of Dnipro, V. Galich. Having heard the arguments of the parties, the Supreme Court rejected the cassation appeal of the defense and confirmed the legality of the decision of the appellate court.
Vadym Galichiy is a suspect in the EBK database.
As a reminder, the court found that in 2016, then-judge Vadym Galichiy demanded and received an illegal benefit in the amount of $10,000 for influencing officials of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The judge allegedly promised to help resolve the issue of not bringing a person to criminal liability.
