The former mayor of Irpin, Oleksandr Markushyn, was charged with abuse of office and legalization of property.

This was reported by the National Police and the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, in 2019, the former deputy mayor of Irpin organized the illegal seizure of a communal land plot and a boiler room building in the central part of the city.

It is noted that his close friend, who was the director of a municipal enterprise, initiated the procedure for writing off the building and prepared documents about the "worn-out" of the facility. Subsequently, the city council approved the dismantling, although in fact the premises remained intact, and the land plot was allocated by the official's assistants ostensibly for the construction of a garage.

Then the object was leased, and after a certain time the land plot together with the real estate was sold to third parties. All the sale documents were executed through a private notary - the official's wife.

Oleksandr Markushyn called the suspicion "a continuation of the political persecution of the legally elected mayor of Irpin," allegedly ordered by his opponent Volodymyr Karplyuk.

These businessmen are doing everything they can to prevent me from returning to office, as my suspension is currently being challenged in court. They artificially inflated the losses to reclassify the article so that they can, through the court verdict they need, deprive me of the right to hold public office.

— wrote Markushin.

He also called on the Prosecutor General's Office to pay attention to the "use of law enforcement officers in political repressions," as well as to check the progress of criminal cases against the Irpin development mafia.

Oleksandr Markushyn is a figure in the EBK database.

As a reminder, in January 2025, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv remanded the mayor of Irpin into custody and suspended Markushyn from his duties for the duration of the investigation. In February, he was placed under 24-hour house arrest.

This is a case related to the trip abroad of the mayor of Irpin from August 24 to August 30, 2022. According to law enforcement, Markushyn allegedly went to Italy not to help the military, but to see his 2-year-old son.

We also reported that the High Anti-Corruption Court extended until December 5 the term of office of Alla, the wife of the head of the Antimonopoly Committee, Pavlo Kyrylenko.
