Ex-Kyiv Metro Head Suspected of Negligence Over Tunnel Flooding
Viktor Braginskyi, the former head of the "Kyiv Metropoliten" CE, was informed of the suspicion of official negligence, which led to the flooding between the "Demiivska" and "Lybidska" stations.
This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the investigation, the surveyor did not assess the risks of emergency situations in the capital's subway and did not organize proper control over the condition of the structures on individual sections of the line. In particular, no commission was created for special inspections of the subway, which led to the destruction of tunnel elements.
Because of these deficiencies, cracks appeared in the tunnels between the "Demiivska" and "Lybidska" stations, water began to seep into the raceways, and the integrity of the waterproofing was broken. Because of this, on December 8, 2023, the city authorities stopped traffic on part of the line.
The examination established that the operation of the tunnels does not comply with building regulations, and the damages from the official's negligence from December 2023 to March 2024 amount to more than 138 million hryvnias. The company also lost nearly 26 million hryvnias from the closure of the metro section.
Measures are currently being taken to locate the suspect.
