Lviv customs officer detained for systematic bribery

A customs officer was detained in the Lviv region for organizing a scheme to receive bribes from a representative of a company engaged in wholesale trade in vegetables and fruits. The customs officer demanded a kickback of $70 for each registered car.
As the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office reported on January 7, the deputy head of the customs clearance department of one of the Lviv customs posts set up a scheme to receive bribes. For each car with products registered at the customs post under his control, he demanded $70. In case of refusal, the customs officer promised to create artificial obstacles during registration. In particular, it was about delaying time, additional and complete inspections of cargo. This would lead to spoilage of the goods - lettuce and arugula.
Subsequently, the employee was transferred to another position as deputy head of the customs clearance department. However, the terms of the agreement did not change, as he still had the opportunity to influence his former subordinates. It is documented that for products imported during October-November, the customs officer received a total of more than 35 thousand UAH from the company representative.
The customs officer was informed of suspicion of receiving an unlawful benefit by an official and abuse of influence (Part 3 of Article 368, Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention and removal from office is being decided.
We previously reported that a bail of UAH 5 million was set for the Lutskrad MP in the bribery case.
It also became known earlier that assets worth UAH 7.3 million were found in the family of a Khmelnytskyi region SMS official.
