Policeman to be tried for $17,500 bribe over border crossing

A police officer suspected of receiving $17,500 for documents allowing a conscript to travel abroad will be tried in the Ternopil region.
According to the investigation, the suspect was approached by a conscript with a request to provide information on the legal crossing of the state border of Ukraine under martial law. The policeman, who worked in the district territorial center of recruitment and social support before joining the police, promised to use his personal connections and assist in issuing a certificate of temporary unfitness for military service. This would allow the man to leave the country. Initially, he estimated his "services" at $16,000, but later the amount increased to $17,500.
Law enforcement officers detained the policeman while he was handing over the entire amount. He was remanded in custody with the possibility of posting bail of over 200,000 hryvnias.
The suspect is charged with Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – abuse of influence. The investigation into the case was conducted by investigators of the territorial department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Lviv.
