HACC rejects motion to remove prosecutor in Maksymenko case
The High Anti-Corruption Court refused to remove the prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office from the criminal proceedings on charges of the former deputy head of the Zaporizhia Regional Prosecutor's Office, Natalia Maksymenko, of extorting and receiving $40,000 in illegal benefits.
The application for the prosecutor's disqualification shall be denied.
As is known, the deputy prosecutor of the Zaporizhia region was released from custody after posting bail under the following obligations: to appear upon first demand; not to leave the Zaporizhia region without permission; to report a change in her place of residence and/or place of work; to refrain from communicating with a number of persons; to hand over her foreign passports and to wear an electronic bracelet. Later, the bracelet was removed from her, and the obligations to appear upon first demand and not to leave the Zaporizhia region without permission were canceled.
As a reminder, NABU and SAPO exposed the deputy prosecutor of Zaporizhzhia region in the act. Later, she was informed of suspicion of receiving $40 thousand in illegal benefits. According to the investigation, the deputy head of the regional prosecutor's office requested an illegal benefit and actually received an illegal benefit in the amount of $40 thousand for resolving the issue of changing the subject of investigation in criminal proceedings, ensuring the cancellation of the seizure of a person's property and not bringing him to criminal liability under other articles under pre-trial investigation.
