Appeals court upholds detention of former tax chief Oleinikov

The High Anti-Corruption Court extended the detention of former head of the State Tax Service Yevhen Oleinnikov until August 10, but reduced his bail to UAH 1.25 million.
As is known, the anti-corruption court took Oleinnikov into custody and set him a bail of 5 million UAH. On April 15, the HACC extended the arrest for two months, but reduced the bail to 3.32 million UAH. Later, the AC of the HACC reduced the bail to 2 million UAH.
Subsequently, a detective from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau again requested to extend Oleinikow's arrest for another two months. On June 11, the Supreme Court of Criminal Appeals partially supported the request and extended the arrest until August 10, but reduced the bail to UAH 1.25 million. The suspect's defense attorney filed an appeal against this decision.
The appeal of the suspect's defense lawyer (Oleynikov - ed.) is to be dismissed, and the ruling of the investigating judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court of June 11, 2026 is to be left unchanged.
Yevgeny Oleinnikov is a figure in the EBK database.
As a reminder, NABU and SAPO have exposed 11 people involved in a criminal organization that created a conversion center with a turnover of UAH 15 billion. In particular, the suspects include the former head of the State Tax Service, Yevhen Oleinikov. As the investigation established, he facilitated the smooth operation of the conversion center, and his former deputy, who headed the commission on suspension of registration of tax invoices, ensured that decisions were made in favor of the necessary companies.
According to NABU, the organization's members created a scheme of over 200 legal entities to minimize tax payments. The center's activities were made possible by systematic abuse of power by State Tax Service officials and bribery of individual employees.
According to the case materials, in 2020–2023, the center issued tax invoices with false data for a total of UAH 15 billion, and fictitious VAT amounted to over UAH 2.3 billion. As a result of the transaction, the state budget received more than UAH 147 million less.
We also previously reported that the HACC reduced the bail of the former head of the tax service.
