Supreme Court Upholds Bribery Conviction for Moldovan Citizen image

The Supreme Court left unchanged the verdict sentencing Moldovan citizen Serhiy Nerukh to 5 years in prison for giving a bribe to the military prosecutor of the Southern Region of Ukraine to lift the arrest of the Sky Moon vessel.

This was reported by the press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.

As is known, on May 12, 2021, the Supreme Court of Justice found Nerukh guilty of providing an unlawful benefit. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison with special confiscation of $75,000, which was provided as an unlawful benefit. On February 4, 2022, the Supreme Court of Justice left this sentence unchanged. However, on September 28, 2022, the Criminal Court of Cassation overturned the Supreme Court of Justice's decision and ordered a retrial of the appeal. The Supreme Court of Justice left the sentence unchanged.

On December 10, 2024, the Supreme Court confirmed the legality and left unchanged the verdict of the Supreme Court of Justice of Ukraine dated May 12, 2021 and the ruling of the Appellate Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of Ukraine dated March 10, 2023, by which the citizen of Moldova S. Nerukh was found guilty of offering and directly providing 75 thousand US dollars of illegal benefit to the military prosecutor of the Southern region of Ukraine. The Supreme Court supported the position of the prosecutor of the SAPO and refused the defense to review the indicated decisions

As a reminder, on December 2, 2016, Ukraine arrested the Sky Moon vessel, which was engaged in illegal transportation to occupied Crimea. The ship was later confiscated in favor of the state.

At the same time, on December 29, 2016, the accused Nerukh, in his own interests and in the interests of the company of a non-resident of Ukraine, of which he is a co-owner, wanted to lift the arrest of the Sky Moon vessel, detained during the investigation by the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region of Ukraine. Nerukh also wanted to lift the arrest of the cargo - a commodity batch of technical soda in the amount of 3,005.2 tons, in order to avoid the possibility of confiscation of valuable movable property.

During the meeting, which took place under the control of law enforcement agencies, Nerukh provided the military prosecutor of the Southern Region with an illegal benefit in the amount of $75,000 for the lifting of the seizure of property.

Earlier it became known that the State Bureau of Investigation detained the former deputy chairman of the Supreme Economic Court, Yemelyanov.
