Supreme Court sets hearing in MP Odarchenko case
The Supreme Court of Ukraine has scheduled a hearing for August 4 to consider cassation appeals against the verdict sentencing People's Deputy Andriy Odarchenko to 8 years in absentia.
As is known, the High Anti-Corruption Court found Odarchenko guilty of providing illegal benefits. He was sentenced to 8 years in prison with confiscation of all property owned by him and with a ban on holding a number of positions for a period of 3 years. The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court left this verdict unchanged. The defense and the prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office filed an appeal against the verdict.

Last year, the High Anti-Corruption Court took MP Andriy Odarchenko into custody in absentia and decided to collect from the state revenue 15 million hryvnias of bail, which was paid as a preventive measure. Odarchenko fled abroad, crossing the border with Romania near the settlement of Krasnoyilsk in Bukovina, where he requested political asylum. He was declared a national and international wanted person .
