Doctors in Kyiv region exposed in cataract treatment scheme image

Doctors in the Kyiv region were exposed in a scheme to illegally receive state budget funds during cataract treatment.

This was reported by the Prosecutor General's Office.

It was found that patients were forced to purchase intraocular lenses at their own expense, while the medical institution received budget compensation of UAH 2.5 million for medical products that were not provided.

The head of the medical institution was charged with abuse of office under Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The actions of the head of the ophthalmology department were qualified as aiding and abetting abuse of office (Part 5 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and unauthorized alteration of information in electronic systems (Part 1, Part 3 of Article 362 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Other possible episodes of illegal reimbursement of budget funds are also being investigated. The issue of choosing preventive measures is being resolved.
