In Khmelnytskyi, the head of a department at a utility company has been charged with embezzlement of nearly UAH 1 million. He faces up to 12 years in prison for the crime.

According to the investigation, in 2023, the municipal enterprise of the Khmelnytskyi City Council concluded an agreement with the company for the purchase of three diesel generators. During the annual inventory, the inspectors discovered a shortage of a generator worth over UAH 927,000, which was on the balance sheet of the state institution.

During the pre-trial investigation, it was revealed that a 35-year-old employee of a municipal institution made a decision to embezzle the property entrusted to him, as he illegally transferred the generator to unauthorized persons.

The 35-year-old official was charged under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (embezzlement of another's property through abuse of official position under martial law on a particularly large scale). The sanction of the article provides for 7 to 12 years of imprisonment.
