Odesa doctor suspected of taking $1,600 bribe for disability

In Odessa, the head of an expert commission at one of the city's hospitals is suspected of accepting a bribe for disability registration and expedited medical examinations. During searches at her home, law enforcement officers found about five million hryvnias in various currencies.
According to the investigation, a man with health problems approached the neurologist, who is the head of the neurology and psychiatry department and is part of the hospital's cardio-neurological expert team. The medical worker agreed to help only for a monetary reward - she demanded $1,600 for registering a group III disability and speeding up the appointment for the examination, the police noted.
The man contacted law enforcement. Investigators documented how the 56-year-old doctor received money from the patient in several installments, after which she was detained. During searches of the suspect's office and residence, money, mobile phones, and other physical evidence were seized. The court seized the seized property.
The woman was informed of the suspicion under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. She faces up to ten years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years and confiscation of property. The court chose for her a preventive measure in the form of 24-hour house arrest.
