Lviv Region Official Fined for Bribery in Import Control

The Drohobych City District Court of the Lviv region sentenced Mykhailo Krechkivskyi, who, while working at the State Service for Food and Consumer Protection, took bribes from a seafood importer for passing state veterinary and sanitary control.
The court sentenced him to a fine of UAH 34,000.
As stated in the verdict, which was published in the court registry in February 2025, the accused, while serving as the head of the Sambir Border Inspection Department of the State Border Control Department of the Western Interregional Main Directorate of the State Service for Food and Consumer Protection at the Border, took a bribe from a seafood importer.
According to the case materials, the official took $300 for influencing officials of the Sambir border inspection department to ensure that the company's cargo passed state veterinary and sanitary control without hindrance and quickly.
As reported by the media, an official of the State Service for Food and Consumer Protection of Ukraine, Mykhailo Krechkivskyi, and a Drohobych businessman and broker, Mykola Kimak, were detained for accepting a bribe for customs clearance of goods. The court has currently considered the case against Mykhailo Krechkivskyi.
In court, the accused pleaded guilty and said that he received $50 in bribes for one truck, and $300 in total.
This case was considered by Judge Andriy Khomyk, who examined all the materials, arguments, and data about the accused, who has no previous convictions and supports three minor children. Krechkivsky was found guilty of bribery and was fined UAH 34,000. The bribe was confiscated from him. It is currently unknown whether the convicted person continues to work at the State Service for Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. The verdict can still be appealed.
